Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has indicated that he might consider vying for a higher national position in the future—but only after completing his current duties and if he feels confident that he has effectively served the nation.
In a message shared online, Dr. Sengeh reviewed his contributions so far and mentioned that after concluding his tenure as Chief Minister, he would contemplate pursuing a more senior government role. However, he emphasized that such a decision would depend on whether he believes he has fulfilled a particular level of performance.
He mentioned that if he could measure up to even “half as good” as Dr. Sir Milton Margai—Sierra Leone’s first Chief Minister—then he might be willing to take that next step. Dr. Margai later became the country’s first Prime Minister and was instrumental in steering Sierra Leone toward independence. Dr. Sengeh invoked his legacy while reflecting on the caliber of leadership he aims to emulate.
