Lungi, Sierra Leone – President Julius Maada Bio will officially commission the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Lungi on 18 July 2026, marking a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s infrastructure development ahead of the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
According to a State House press release issued by the Office of the Press Secretary, the commissioning ceremony will also include the inauguration of the ECOWAS Logistics Depot, both of which are expected to strengthen Sierra Leone’s capacity to host major regional and international events
The new International Conference Centre has been described as a major addition to the country’s infrastructure, providing a modern venue capable of accommodating high-level diplomatic meetings and international conferences. The facility will serve as the venue for the ECOWAS Heads of State Summit scheduled for 19 July 2026, where regional leaders will gather to discuss key issues affecting West Africa.
State House noted that the Conference Centre is expected to enhance Sierra Leone’s profile as a destination for international conferences while supporting the country’s broader development agenda. The accompanying ECOWAS Logistics Depot is expected to improve the institutional and operational capacity of ECOWAS by providing logistical support for regional activities.
The commissioning comes at a time when Sierra Leone prepares to host several ECOWAS statutory meetings, culminating in the Heads of State Summit. The inauguration of the new facility underscores the government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that promotes regional cooperation, diplomacy, and economic development.
