The Sierra Leone Police has announced the arrest of six individuals linked to a series of armed robbery incidents that took place about two weeks ago in Bo and Kenema.
The robberies, which occurred on different dates, led to the tragic death of Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu in Kenema and left Mr. John Lamina, NASSIT South Regional Manager, critically injured in Bo.
Police say the arrest of the six suspects marks major progress in the ongoing investigations, following intensified operations. Those in custody include:
Gbassay Swarray, alias Success, previously implicated in a murder case in Moyamba;
Joseph Kamagy Kamara, alias Shine;
Martin Sallu, an ex-convict;
Joseph Bangalie, alias Boika, also an ex-convict for serious offences;
Foday Sallu; and
Foday Hassan Sesay, caught with one of Mr. Lamina’s stolen belongings.
According to police reports, the suspects were found in possession of firearms and other housebreaking tools.
In a separate case, another Sierra Leonean was arrested at Lungi International Airport for carrying illegal substances. Police confirm that investigations into both matters remain ongoing, while a manhunt is underway for other suspects still on the run.
The Sierra Leone Police commended the public for their cooperation and encouraged continued support by providing timely and useful information to help safeguard lives and property.
