Ghana to supply electricity to Nigeria in exchange for natural gas.
Ghana and Nigeria are set to sign a barter-style energy deal.
Nigeria will supply natural gas to Ghana, which Ghana will use to generate electricity.
Instead of a cash payment, Ghana would export a portion of that electricity back to Nigeria as compensation.
Ghana will also export electricity to several neighbours such as Togo, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Benin.
Ghana is building its infrastructure for electric vehicles, starting with its first government-owned, solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Accra, which launched in July 2025. This facility, developed with the support of GIZ, serves as a model and a hub for sustainable transport, using solar panels and a lithium-ion battery bank. The country also has numerous large power generation stations for grid electricity, such as the Bui Hydroelectric Power Station and several thermal power plants like Aksa Ghana HFO power plant and the Kpone Thermal Power Station II, which together supply the nation’s electricity needs. #amazetvsl
