Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has reprimanded Isiolo governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo after the governor finally appeared before the Senate following his repeated failure to respond to summons.
Why did Boni Khalwale lecture Governor Abdi Guyo?
The senator questioned the governor’s educational qualifications after Guyo dismissed the significance of the summons, claiming they had been revoked and were therefore irrelevant for discussion.
“I am worried. In an era where governors have gone into office with fake degrees, you are tempting me to start querying you about your academic background? The children are dying in Isiolo. Your inability to run medicare requires that we be tough on you. Do you appreciate that this senate holds your fate in its hands? The level of impunity that you have demonstrated towards the Senate will fall on you,” he stated.
Khalwale reminded Guyo of the current issues affecting the country and urged him to apologise and submit to the necessary oversight and accountability processes.
The senator also criticised Guyo’s leadership, calling his actions immature and incompetent, qualities the county cannot afford in its leadership.
“As a government and a politician, I am sure you know of the events that took place in the last few days in this parliament. We will not allow you to treat Isiolo like your private property.
If you must apologise, do so and subject yourself to oversight and accountability and will have no problem with you. If it is political immaturity, play it outside the office of the governor of Isiolo. The county does not expect someone who is incompetent, immature and cannot read a document like that one showing revocation,” he firmly stated.
John Khaminwa, Githu Muigai clash in court
In other news, veteran lawyer John Khaminwa expressed anger during the hearing of impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s case when senior counsel Githu Muigai interrupted his speech.
Khaminwa firmly asked Githu to sit down, remarking that he had been practising law while the senior counsel was still breastfeeding.
Khaminwa was opposing the limited time allocated to lawyers to present their arguments in the case, which has caused significant paralysis in the state.
