Abdul Karim Kamara, a member of the All People’s Congress (APC) communications team, has alleged that Chief Sam-Sumana is trying to sidestep party regulations in order to legitimize his bid for the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2026 elections.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Liberty Online TV, Kamara noted that Sam-Sumana, who once served as Sierra Leone’s Vice President under the APC, had previously defected to another political party before seeking to return in 2023.
“Quitting the APC for another political movement is a political offense, and the party’s constitution makes it clear that anyone who departs and later comes back must go through a formal re-admission process, particularly for senior party members,” Kamara emphasized.
He pointed out that Sam-Sumana himself publicly confirmed his re-admission during a 2024 press conference, which, according to him, affects the former Vice President’s current status in the APC. “Once a member is re-admitted, their membership is counted from that date onward,” Kamara maintained.
His remarks further fuel the ongoing discussion within the APC about who is truly eligible to vie for the party’s leadership ahead of the 2026 polls.
