Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) has dismissed as false and damaging a circulating flyer alleging that it is the “most non-compliant” institution under the Office of the Ombudsman. The university described the claim as misleading and injurious to its image.
According to MMTU, it has consistently and promptly responded to all communications from the Ombudsman’s Office. The institution noted that even when the former Ombudsman sidestepped formal procedures and contacted the Vice-Chancellor and Principal directly, the Registrar ensured that all required replies were delivered in accordance with the Universities Act of 2021 and the school’s administrative procedures.
A senior university source condemned the flyer’s claim as unjust, stressing that making such allegations against a public institution—particularly at the beginning of a new administration—undermines the impartiality and professionalism expected of the Ombudsman’s Office. MMTU labeled the publication “unfounded” and said it discredits proper governance and due process.
Efforts by MMTU and several media organizations to seek clarification from the Ombudsman’s Office, including through direct calls, reportedly yielded no official feedback.
The issue emerges as the Ombudsman’s Office seeks to regain public confidence after a period of internal strife. Previous disagreements between the former Ombudsman and the former Executive Secretary had hampered operations and weakened service delivery.
Both individuals were eventually dismissed to restore integrity, strengthen leadership, and uphold professional standards.
