The leader of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) in Parliament has called on political actors to maintain decorum and foster constructive debate on radio discussions and talk shows, stressing their vital role in deepening democratic awareness and promoting civic education.
In a statement, the APC leader emphasized that radio platforms are not merely for entertainment, but are essential spaces for citizens to engage with issues of national importance, understand differing policy perspectives, and hold political parties accountable.
“It is incumbent upon all political actors and party representatives to use these opportunities responsibly, to educate, enlighten, and respectfully engage the public,” the statement read.
The statement criticized instances where discussions are derailed by personal attacks, unnecessary interruptions, and aggressive behavior.

The APC leader contrasted this with the party’s approach to media engagement, emphasizing that its Public Relations Officers are trained to understand issues, communicate effectively, and argue constructively while maintaining respect for divergent opinions.
“Political communication should be about substance, not noise, about persuasion, not provocation,” the statement added.
The leader underscored that Sierra Leoneans expect serious, mature, and intelligent discussions rather than shouting matches or undisciplined exchanges. He stressed that monopolizing discussions through rudeness or interruptions deprives citizens of meaningful dialogue and reflects poorly on leadership.
“Interrupting others, shouting over opponents, and reducing national platforms to personal theatres of aggression demonstrate intellectual weakness and lack of discipline,” the statement said.
Concluding the statement, the APC leader urged all political actors to uphold high standards for public discourse, reminding parties that the airwaves belong to the people.
“In the APC, we stand for responsible engagement, respectful dialogue, and issue-based debate. We urge all political actors, regardless of affiliation, to uphold these same standards in the interest of national unity, political maturity, and public enlightenment,” the statement concluded.
The APC leader also commended Sidi Yayah Tunis for assembling a strong media team to promote effective communication and public engagement on behalf of the party.
